A unicorn hears from a riddle-speaking butterfly that she is the last of her species, with all the others having been herded away by the Red Bull. The unicorn heads off to find out what the butterfly’s terms really mean. Schmendrick, a mediocre wizard, and Molly Grue, a now middle-aged woman who has dreamed of seeing a unicorn her whole life, soon accompany her on her journey. Their quest takes them far from town, all the way to King Haggard’s castle.
