Dr. Constance Peterson, a psychoanalyst, learns Dr. Anthony Edwardes is an impostor as he appears at a Vermont psychiatric institution to relieve the outgoing hospital chief. The guy admits that the true Dr. Edwardes is dead and that he fears he murdered him, but he has little recollection about what happened. Dr. Peterson, on the other hand, is adamant that his impostor is innocent of the man’s murder and engages him on a psychoanalysis attempt to uncover his amnesia.
