Overview

The life of respected religious icon painter Andrei Rublev is the subject of this sprawling Russian drama. The peace-seeking monk develops a reputation for his art after drifting from place to place in a turbulent age. Rublev, on the other hand, takes a pledge of secrecy and takes time away from his job after seeing a vicious war with which he unwittingly gets active. When he continues to heal his broken spirit, he moves closer to resuming his career as a painter.
