Overview
Sergeant Süleyman comes across a half-frozen little girl in 1950, amidst the ravages of the Korean War. She has no parents and no one to support her. This little girl, frantic, terrified, and on the brink of death, catches Süleyman’s heart, and he sacrifices his own life to rescue her, sneaking her into his Army base and out of harm’s way. Süleyman calls her Ayla after the moon on the tragic night they meet, though he doesn’t recognize her name and can’t speak with her. The two create an immediate and irreversible connection, and Ayla brings an uncanny joy to the Turkish brigade in the midst of the fighting. Süleyman’s brigade, on the other hand, is informed that they will be heading home when the war draws to an end. Süleyman can’t stand leaving Ayla behind, so he does all he can to carry her with him. He is compelled to send Ayla to an orphanage after numerous failures, but he does not give up hope of one day reuniting with her. Is it possible for the two to reconcile?
