Two ambitious young runners prepare for the 1924 Paris Olympics in the class-obsessed and religiously segregated United Kingdom of the early 1920s. Eric Liddell, a devout Christian who was born in China to Scottish missionaries, sees running as a form of worship for God’s glory, and declines to practice or race on the Sabbath. Harold Abrahams overcomes anti-Semitism and class prejudice, but in his single-minded pursuit, he neglects his beloved sweetheart.
