Jerry Shepherd, a sled dog handler, is forced to abandon the polar base with his coworkers owing to the proximity of a strong snowstorm in the Antarctic following an expedition with Dr. Davis McClaren. He ties his dogs together in the hopes of being saved afterwards, but the search is canceled, and the dogs are left to their own devices. Jerry spends six months looking for a rescue mission sponsor.
