A story of a relationship between two unexpected pen pals: Mary, a depressed eight-year-old kid from Melbourne’s suburbs, and Max, a forty-four-year-old guy from New York who is heavily obese. In the mid-1970s, an 8-year-old Australian girl chooses a name from a Manhattan phone book and writes to him, enclosing a chocolate bar in her letter. He responds with a chocolate bar. This is the start of a 20-year correspondence. Would the two ever meet in person?
