When his invitation to visit the Church’s headquarters is denied, the beguilingly unassuming Theroux won’t take no for a response. He has a long obsession with the faith and a lot of experience coping with eccentric, unpalatable, and unexpected human behaviour. Inspired by the Church’s usage of filmmaking methods and with the help of ex-members, Theroux employs actors to reenact some of the events that people say they saw as members in order to get a greater understanding of how it works. In an odd turn of events, it emerges that the Church is already working on a film about Louis Theroux.
