April Burns is a quirky and rebellious young woman who stays in a low-rent New York City apartment with her partner, far removed from her emotionally isolated relatives. When she learns that her mother has a terminal type of breast cancer, she invites the family to Thanksgiving at her house. April, an aspiring chef, falls into kitchen trouble and must seek assistance from a friend as her father tries to get her family into the area.
