Overview

Maziar Bahari, an Iranian Canadian writer, was reporting Iran’s tumultuous polls for Newsweek in 2009. He made an appearance on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, in a filmed interview with comedian Jason Jones, as one of the few reporters living in the world with links to US media. The interview was meant to be satirical, but if the Tehran authorities caught on, they didn’t like it – and it came back to haunt Bahari as he was dragged from his family home and imprisoned.
