The unexplained assassination of a US senator, which bears the signature of the famous Soviet assassin ‘Cassius,’ causes former CIA operative Paul Shepherson to work with rookie FBI investigator Ben Geary to solve the case. Shepherdson has spent his lifetime hunting Cassius and believes his nemesis is long gone, but his former boss, Tom Highland, persuades him to take on the case. Cassius has resurfaced, according to Geary, who wrote his Master’s thesis on Shepherdson’s hunt for the Soviet murderer.
