A soldier’s fate is unknown. An enslaved person’s honor. The destiny of an empire is at stake.
In 140 AD, twenty years after the Ninth Legion’s mysterious disappearance in the Scottish Highlands, young centurion Marcus Aquila (Tatum) arrives from Rome to solve the mystery and regain the prestige of his father, the Ninth’s commander. Marcus heads off over Hadrian’s Wall, accompanied only by his British slave Esca (Bell), into the uncharted highlands of Caledonia, to face the savage peoples, seek reconciliation with his father’s memory, and reclaim the fallen legion’s golden sign, the Eagle of the Ninth.
