Overview
Victor Pivert, a blustering, bigoted French factory owner, is kidnapped by Slimane, an Arab guerrilla leader, in this riot of frantic disguises and mistaken identities. They disguise themselves as rabbis in order to avoid not only assassins from Slimane’s land, but also the police, who suspect Pivert of murder. Pivert ends up impersonating Rabbi Jacob, a well-known personality who has returned to France after 30 years in the United States. Pivert’s dentist-wife, who believes her husband is leaving her for another woman, their daughter, who is about to marry, and a Parisian neighborhood full of citizens excited to welcome Rabbi Jacob’s return add to the mystery.
