Washizu and Miki, samurai soldiers returning to their lord’s palace, are ambushed by a ghost who foretells their fates. As the first part of the spirit’s prophecy comes true, Washizu’s devious wife, Asaji, pressures him to fulfill the remainder of the prophecy by assassinating his lord and usurping his place. One of director Akira Kurosawa’s most praised films is his retelling of William Shakespeare’s “”Macbeth”” in feudal Japan.
