Ken Kaneki is a bookish college student who encounters Rize at a cafe where he hangs out. They’re the same age and have similar tastes, so they become fast friends. Rize is a ghoul, a kind of creature that survives by hunting and devouring human flesh, which Kaneki has little idea about. As a piece of her unique organ, “”the red boy,”” is transplanted into Kaneki, he transforms into a ghoul, stuck in a bizarre universe where humans aren’t the biggest predators.
