Overview
Joe, 14, is the only child of Jeanette and Jerry, a housewife and a golf pro, in a remote Montana town in the 1960s. A nearby forest fire rages uncontrollably along the Canadian border, and when Jerry loses his work (and his sense of purpose), he agrees to enter the war, leaving his wife and son to fend for themselves.
