Two jobless performers, Marwood (anxious and unlucky) and Withnail (acerbic and alcoholic), pass their days bouncing between their squalid apartment, the unemployment agency, and the bar. As they spend their vacation “”by accident”” at Withnail’s flamboyantly gay uncle Monty’s country estate, they see the worst of the English countryside: tedium, frightening villagers, and torrential rain.
